Legacy Elementary School is a pre-K through 5th grade Spanish dual-language immersion school in St. George, Utah. Originally founded as East Elementary in 1956, the school was rebuilt when Washington School District purchased a 5.2-acre site in Downtown St. George for the new facility. In its new configuration, Legacy Elementary continues the legacy of its roots as East Elementary while paving the way for brighter educational futures for its students, the Legacy Broncos. The new facility features state-of-the-art learning studios, special education rooms, a media center with a computer lab, and an enlarged multi-purpose room equipped with a full-length wood gym floor to accommodate after-hours community athletic, social, and civic events. Unlike the prototypical single-story schools in the district, the 61,825-square-foot Liberty Elementary was built as a two-story facility due to site constraints. The steel-framed school’s sleek exteriors are comprised of integrally colored load-bearing tilt-up concrete and colored concrete masonry unit walls that echo Southern Utah’s famous desert hues. These earthy tones provide a compelling contrast to the building’s stately aluminum curtain wall and storefront entryway; a threshold the Broncos cross daily into endless learning opportunities.
