The city of Washington, Utah lies in an otherworldly desertscape of rusted cliffs and verdant sage fields. Home to unique landscapes and a quickly growing population, this Southern Utah city is also home to Majestic Fields Elementary, aptly named in homage to its surroundings. NWL Architects was tasked with designing the 55,676-square-foot, single-story school as a prototype for the Washington County School District, a long-time client of the firm. Pillars support a striking staggered arched roof entry that mimics the curvature of the dusty-red hills that overlook the verdant school fields. The school’s administration, gym, cafeteria, and media centers serve as a centralized shared hub that unites the school’s adjacent classroom wings, providing ease of access to the shared facilities. Completed in fall 2018, the school serves approximately 800 K-5 students and sets a precedent for modern K-12 educational facilities for the fast-growing Southern Utah city.
