Holladay, Utah is home to Knudsen’s Corner, a historically significant landmark that forms the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon at the intersection of 6200 South and Holladay Boulevard. Knudsen’s Corner is named for Rasmus Knudsen, a Danish immigrant who established several business ventures in the area, including numerous sawmills, flour and grain mills, a popular summer camp with an outdoor cafe, and a small restaurant and store. The 8-acre Knudsen Nature Park celebrates the area’s natural and cultural history with intentionally appointed amenities and natural features, including a nature-themed playground, interpretive signs, preserved historic oak groves with picnic sites and relaxation areas, and a historically themed water pump -- an engineering ingenuity that hearkens to the mills of yore. Patrons enjoy a stabilized footbridge and viewing areas along Big Cottonwood Creek, which runs through the park and can easily access an improved bike route equipped with bike repair workstations. Regional trail connections to Big Cottonwood Trail, Heughs Canyon, and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail are continued within the park, providing users with endless possibilities for adventure. Designed in a design/build partnership between NWL Architects and Hughes Construction Company, the park’s pavilion structures complement the natural area with their streamlined look and natural finishes. The Hughes-NWL team shared concepts and project updates with the community throughout the project, and wrapped construction of the award-winning park in October 2018.
