Description

The Santa Clara City Hall was designed to harmonize with and complement the pioneer heritage of Santa Clara City. The city boasts a distinctive 'Swiss Heritage,' thus the area above the front entry is intended to accommodate a 'Swiss glockenspiel.' Due to budget constraints, a natural sandstone veneer was not feasible; therefore, a special concrete block design was developed. The sandstone-colored block, pitched by county jail inmates, closely approximates the look and feel of the region’s pioneer buildings. Program spaces include courtrooms, city council chambers, judges’ chambers, city police offices with holding, interview, and booking rooms, evidence storage and lab space, weapons storage, witness interview rooms, and administrative offices.
